Organic Ethiopia Alaka

Sorry, this item has sold.

Big news everyone! In collaboration with Mother Tongue Coffee, I'm kicking off roasted coffee here at Umeshiso!

I am beyond excited to offer this Ethiopian coffee from Hambela Coffee Farm. The coffee is roasted by one of my personal heroes, Jen Apodaca.

Jen is the founder of #ShesTheRoaster and Mother Tongue Coffee - and the 2019 US Cup Tasters Champion. It’s a dream to be able to offer coffee roasted by Jen!

As a celebratory special until May 27th, each half-pound bag of Alaka comes with these extras, perfect for a lil gift to yourself - or even a gift to someone else!

πŸ’– a cupping spoon in Rainbow or Goth Black (your choice)
πŸ’– a pourover kettle keychain

The next (and final!) roast is on MONDAY 5/27. To be included in that roast, please order by 5PM SUNDAY 5/28. I'll ship your order the next TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY.

Want to learn more about the coffee? Ok let me tell you because this is cool.

This silky, peachy juice bomb - replete with honey sweetness and bunches of jasmine - was grown on Hambela Coffee Farm in Ethiopia.

The estate was a gift to the first woman pilot on the African content, Muluemebet Emiru.

Her grandchildren now operate the farm, along with an extremely active agricultural development company called METAD.

METAD is committed to improving equity for women and education for young people, and their list of achievements and projects is mind-boggling.

If you would like to purchase the coffee as a standalone (without the spoon / keychain / sticker), you're in luck!

It will be available soon at, where you can also learn how Mother Tongue is helping small coffee companies get off the ground.

I hope you enjoy this coffee. I am very excited to offer it.

This item is priced on a sliding scale. Just choose the price that is comfortable for you. My goal is to make each item as accessible as possible, to folks from all different parts of the coffee industry. It works because the community truly observes the honor system: those who are able to pay more make it possible for others with less resources to pay less.

Every order is hand-packed with care by me, Umeko, in my bedroom in West Oakland. I usually spend Sundays packing orders, and ship out on Mondays.

Profits from most sales go toward my labor for packing, shipping, admin, design, and writing (check my coffee blog!) - *except* for products labeled Solidarity.

For these items, 100% of profits go to the nonprofit organization named in the product description. All Solidarity items are marked with a πŸ’ž.
