The Rainbow Spoon Project
This six-pack option is for people wanting to invest in a more empowered and welcoming workplace. As with the single rainbow spoon, the lowest sliding scale is priced at cost, including packing and materials. Buying more makes costs a little cheaper, so the six-pack starts at $24 vs. $30, and shipping is $5 vs. $8.50.
I respectfully ask that those opting for the six-pack, please keep the project's goals in mind as you introduce your rainbows into the workplace! The Rainbow Spoon Project is about empowering those who have experienced marginalization, and reminding us that everyone deserves a seat at the (cupping) table 😊
I’ve always had a fraught relationship with cupping. (Being corrected on tasting notes, embarrassed, not knowing what bergamot tastes like.)
So I wanted rainbow cupping spoons, to disarm something that scared me. It reminds me that I can be myself - femme, queer, biracial, sensitive - and also do my job and taste coffee. All those things are possible at once!
In Feb of 2018, I started the Rainbow Spoon project. I mailed out a rainbow spoon, for free, to anyone who asked. To rad, amazing women, femmes & nb folks, and our allies.
After sending out 75 spoons, I unfortunately am no longer able to provide them for free! (As the spoons were paid for out of pocket). So I'm offering them here at cost - meaning I only make back the amount spent on materials, labor & Etsy fees, with no profit.
You can choose to pay exactly the at-cost amount, or you can choose to donate $1-$5 dollars that will go toward expenses for the project. Donations are 100% optional, and I completely understand if the at-cost price is the most accessible for you.
Thank you for sharing this journey with me. I think we’re all in this together, cupping the rainbow.
Everything on my shop is priced on a sliding scale. Just choose the price that is comfortable for you. My goal is to make each item as accessible as possible, to folks from all different parts of the coffee industry. It works because the community truly observes the honor system: those who are able to pay more make it possible for others with less resources to pay less.
Every order is hand-packed with care by me, Umeko, in my bedroom in West Oakland. I usually spend Sundays packing orders, and ship out on Mondays.
Profits from most sales go toward my labor for packing, shipping, admin, design, and writing (check my coffee blog!) - *except* for products labeled Solidarity.
For these items, 100% of profits go to the nonprofit organization named in the product description. All Solidarity items are marked with a 💞.
